5 Rivers is an incredible facility on the Mobile-Tensaw Delta for outdoor recreation. Alabama’s Mobile-Tensaw Delta is a unique, natural confluence of fresh and salt water with 250,000 acres of scenic waterways, woods, and wetlands. Visitors to 5 Rivers can explore trails, kayak, picnic, and more!
The Mobile-Tensaw Delta is where the Mobile, Spanish, Tensaw, Apalachee, and Blakeley rivers flow into Mobile Bay. This merging of fresh and salt waters has created a complex network of tidally-influenced creeks, rivers, bays, lakes, and bayous.
There are over 500 kinds of plants here, 126 species of fish, and more than 300 species of birds! The area also supports 30 species of amphibians, 69 species of reptiles, and 40 species of mammals. To say that the Mobile-Tensaw Delta is teeming with life is an understatement.
The 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center is an extraordinary facility on the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Located in Spanish Fort, AL, 5 Rivers offers over 81 acres of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta for you to explore – and in a variety of ways!
At 5 Rivers, you can explore one of the many paths on the trail system. This is a great way to get around the entire facility and see a variety of plants, wildlife, and habitats. The trail is relatively flat and less than a mile long, so almost everyone can enjoy it. Guided tours and field trips are also available. Picnic pavilions provide a pleasant space to relax and replenish.
Another popular pastime involves getting out onto the Delta, itself. Kayak and canoe rentals are available, as well as guided paddling tours. If you’d prefer to do less paddling and more gawking, “The Osprey” pontoon boat offers floating safaris of the Lower Delta. If you have the time, a sunset cruise of the Delta is to die for.
5 Rivers offers a variety of facilities to help you to explore and understand the region, as well.
The 4,000 square foot Apalachee Exhibit Hall helps tell the story of the plant, animal, and human life here on the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. The Tensaw Theater plays related films during Sunday Matinees and throughout the week. The Cypress Welcome Center and Gift Shop has unique works from local artisans, along with a variety of outdoor products, books, and apparel. The center also hosts a variety of special events during the year.
If you’re looking for a fun and fascinating family-friendly distraction that won’t break the bank, 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center is for you!
